New Year...New Me : )

Hi!  Well I've finally decided to write a new post to my blog which I haven't done since September!  Life has been busy, and I am finally taking out some time to update.

As I look back on the beginning of 2011 (which yes...it has only been one month), I realize that I've had a pretty busy year so far.  At the start of the year, our cat Meeka was sick for a whole week at the vet due to complications from her surgery in December.  We didn't think she was going to make it, but she is still with us as perky as she was before her surgery : )  Joey and I recently moved into a new apartment in Boise, and we are enjoying our new place even though we are still in the process of unpacking.  We've also been training with the Boise Run Walk Club where we run every Saturday morning in preparation for half marathons throughout the year.  It's been tough to wake up early every Saturday morning, but (as the saying goes) practice makes perfect! I've also been enjoying my new hobby of cake decorating : )  Joey bought me two cake decorating classes at JoAnn's for Christmas, and my first one just ended last week.  It was sooo much fun, and I enjoyed all four weeks of it.  My second class starts this week, and I am looking forward to what I will be learning!

Here are some pictures of the techniques I learned from my first cake decorating class : )

My first class we used the star tip and piping bag to make star designs on cookies.

My second class, we filled, iced, and decorated a cake using a pattern with piping gel.

My third class, we filled, iced, and decorated cupcakes.

My fourth and final class, we decorated a cake using any of the techniques we learned in the class.

It's been a busy and exciting year, and I am ready for what the rest of 2011 has to offer : )
I will continue to post pictures of the new creations I make
and my new interior design ideas : )

Inspiration in Red and Brown

The decision to be creative starts from one small spark of inspiration, and that's exactly what happened when Joey and I were shopping one day.  We had talked about the color scheme we wanted to use in our living room when we found a place to live.  As we were walking around Cost Plus World Market, we came across this serving tray with a red and brown pattern.  I loved it so much, and it gave me the answer of which color scheme to use in the living room.... red and brown : )

As time went by, I found decorations that would match the red and brown color scheme of our living room.

While I was visiting my family in Louisiana, mom and I went shopping at Kirkland's.  I found this set of three candle holders that matched a set like mom has in her living room.  I bought the candles later at Walmart here in Boise.

I also found these balls at Kirkland's.  I really liked the fleur de lis design on them because it would add a touch of Louisiana to our house : ) I bought the basket later at Target here in Boise.

Back in Boise, I found a few more decorations I liked to add to the red and brown scheme of the living room.

At T.J. Maxx, I found this red pillow with gold stitched flowers.  I really liked the color of it because it matched the curtains that we chose.

At Micheal's, I found this glass vase, glass pebbles, red flowers, red candles, and glass candle holders.  I was actually going to Micheal's with finding something like this in mind because I had a small table that needed an extra touch of color.

Then the wedding came along, and we received some great gifts.  Two of my favorites were a fleur de lis and a Bless Our Home sign.  I knew that they would both look great in the room : )

In one of my next post, I will post pictures of how I used all of the previous decorations in our red and brown inspired living room : )

Until then...Have a great day!

Starting off...

To start off, I'd like to say Hi : )  I decided to start this blog as a way to display my favorite hobby... Interior Design.  I love to decorate, organize, and make things look nice!  I recently moved into a townhome with my husband, and I have had so much fun decorating it and making it a home for the both of us.  I will post some of those pictures on here, and I will also post pictures of projects I complete in the future.  I would love to fulfill my dream of one day being an interior designer, but for now I will just continue to enjoy it as my hobby for fun.

....And remember....
